TROUBLESHOOTING

The problems described in this table are commonly encountered operational malfunctions and are usually not caused by circuit
failure.
Problem
Power is not turned on when using
Li-ion battery pack or AAA alkaline
batteries.
Power is not turned on when using
regulated DC power supply or
cigarette lighter socket.
Power is turned on but nothing
appears on the display.
No sound from the speaker even
though the volume is turned up.
Unable to adjust to a higher (or lower)
frequency even by rotating the
control.
The frequency does not change even
[ENC]
by rotating the
control.
[MR]
Pressing
does not display the
memory channels.
Memory cannot be recalled.
Unable to transmit.
The display is blinking on and off
during transmission.
Transmission output decreases. Or
"H" (high power) is blinking.
Repeater cannot be used.
Reverse cannot be set to OFF.
The Scan function stops immediately.
The Scan function does not resume
scanning after it has stopped.
Most keys do not function.
VOX does not function.
The speaker sound is transmitted.
Probable Cause
Battery voltage is low.
The protective circuit of the Li-ion battery
is functioning.
When both DC IN and the battery are
connected, turning off the power of DC IN
may restart the transceiver.
Faulty power cable or bad connection.
Power cable fuse has blown out.
Automatic Power Off (APO) is functioning.
The power supply may be turned OFF
during transmission when the charger and
battery are used at the same time.
The sound has been set to mute at
Volume Balance.
The squelch is closed.
CTCSS is set to ON.
DCS is set to ON.
The transceiver is paired with a Bluetooth
headset.
Programmable VFO has been configured.
[ENC]
Key Lock has been set.
Nothing is registered in the memory
channels.
The recall method of the memory channel
has been set to [Current Band] and the
frequency of the displayed frequency
band has not been registered in the
memory channel.
TX Inhibit has been activated.
Transmission frequency is out of range.
Power voltage is low.
Temperature protection is activated and
output is automatically decreased.
Auto Repeater Offset is set to OFF.
Wrong tone frequency/shift/offset width.
As Shift is set to ON, setting Reverse to
OFF will set the frequency outside the
allowable frequency band.
The threshold level of squelch is Open.
Scan resume method is set to
Seek.
Key Lock has been set.
VOX gain settings are too low.
The headset with VOX function is not
connected.
VOX is ON and headset is not connected.
Recharge the battery pack or replace the AAA alkaline
batteries with new ones.
Remove the Li-ion battery from the transceiver, reinstall,
then turn on the power again.
This is not a malfunction. You can use the transceiver after
restart.
Check for any abnormality in the cable and whether the
polarity is correct.
If the fuse has blown out due to reasons other than the
transceiver, replace the fuse after repair.
Turn OFF the power supply, then turn it ON again.
The charger is used for charging purpose. The process
of turning OFF the power supply and restarting the
transceiver is not a malfunction.
A regulated DC power supply can be used together with
the battery without having to restart the transceiver.
Set other volume except for mute.
Lower the threshold level of the squelch (toward 0).
Set CTCSS to OFF.
Set DCS to OFF.
Disconnect the Bluetooth headset.
Reconfigure the frequency of the programmable VFO.
Change the type of Key Lock or cancel Key Lock.
Register data in the memory channels.
Change recall method of the memory channel to [All
Bands], or register data in the memory channel.
Set TX Inhibit to OFF.
Change the frequency to within the transmission range
and transmit.
Recharge the battery pack or replace the AAA alkaline
batteries with new ones.
Turn OFF the power supply or remain in the receiving
state and wait until the temperature decreases.
Set Auto Repeater Offset to ON.
Select a proper tone frequency/shift/offset width.
Set Shift to OFF, then set Reverse to OFF.
Adjust the threshold level to an appropriate level.
Set to Time (Time-Operated) or Carrier (Carrier-
Operated).
Cancel Key Lock.
Adjust the VOX gain.
Connect the headset with VOX function, and then set VOX
