CHARACTER ASYNCHRONOUS AND BLOCK ASYNCHRONOUS
The 8 34 support s t wo t ypes of asynchronous t ransm i ssi ons :
" charact er asynchronous " and
" block asynchronous ." Most ASCII asynchronous t erm i nals use charact er asynchronous
t ransm i ssi ons . In t hi s t ype, charact ers are recei ved at varyi ng i nt ervals , and fram es are
t erm i nat ed by a si ngle End of Fram e ( EOF) charact er ( li ne feed or carri age ret urn ) . Charact er
asynchronous appears in t he set up m enu as SETUP=ASYNC.

Block asynchronous t ransm i ssi on is used wi t h li ne prot ocols t hat process charact ers in
groups or blocks . The end of a block is det erm i ned ei t her by an EOF charact er or an idle li ne .
Block asynchronous appears in t he set up m enu as SETUP=ASYNBLK .
POWER - UP SETUP
When 8 34R01 is in place , t he set up condi t i ons in effect upon power - up are t hose of a

8 34R01 enables an 8 34 t o support Correspondence and Baudot codes . These select i ons
appear in t he set up m enu as CODE = CORRES and CODE BAUDOT in t he posi t i ons
followi ng HEX . 8 34R01 also provi des t ransfer funct i ons t hat set up an 8 34 t o handle norm al
Correspondence and Bau dot code envi ronm ent s . Correspondence and Baudot HEX
