FCM2041-U3 OPERATOR INTERFACE MANUAL

XNET Networked System

Global OI

Scope of Control

BASIC OPERATION
1-14
When the Cerberus PRO Modular is part of a network of FACP fire alarm control
panel nodes communicating over the XNET communication protocol, the OI Alert
capabilities can be adjusted in several ways to provide the required level of oversight.
With the appropriate hardware upgrade and the proper configuration in the Zeus tool,
a FCM2041-U3 can be given global capability over an XNET network of Cerberus
PRO Modular, MXL and MXL-IQ nodes.
A FCM2041-U3 with global capability is referred to as a Global OI, and it displays
events for all nodes within the XNET network. In contrast, a FCM2041-U3 that does
not have global capability is referred to as a local (or standard) OI. In a Global OI, the
event device address in the Devices screen is displayed as a global address. The first
number in a global address is the address of the node that owns the device, followed
by the module and device address of the device.
Whether configured as a Global OI or not, an OI always displays all events pertaining
to its local node. However, a Global OI can be configured to selectively display the
events for remote XNET nodes for specific event types only. For example, a security-
only Global OI displays all local events, but it only displays the security events that
are posted by remote nodes.
In addition to the FCM2041-U3 configuration, the Global OI requires a Global OI configu-
ration file, transferred from the Zeus tool to the OI's PCMCIA or SD card. The two configu-
ration files must correspond to the same version of the same Zeus project. If the
FCM2041-U3 determines that the two files don't match, it posts a trouble and runs as a
local FCM2041-U3.
A FCM2041-U3 that is configured as Display Only does not provide the ability to
acknowledge events, to silence or unsilence the notification appliances, nor to reset
the system. When an event occurs in an OI with Display Only, a Silence Buzzer soft
key displays in the bottom left corner of the screen. Pressing this key silences the
system's internal audible.
A Global OI that is configured as an OI with Control provides control over the entire
network of Cerberus PRO Modular. When pressing the soft keys that are available at
the bottom of the screen (Acknowledge Events, Silence Audibles, Unsilence Audibles
and Reset System), the specific command is executed on all the nodes where it is
applicable.
A Global OI that is configured as Display Only may retain control over its local node, if
configured this way in the Zeus tool. In this case, it behaves as an OI with Control with
regard to its local node, and as an OI with Display Only with regard to the remote
nodes. The soft keys at the bottom of the screen are relabeled Local Acknowledge,
Local Silence, Local Unsilence and Local Reset, respectively. These control commands
apply only to the events and notification appliances in the local node.
