User Cases

1. Using the attenuator

The attenuator allows you to dim the volume level of the cabinet connected to the SPEAKER OUT of
Captor X SE. The use of a cabinet is not mandatory with Captor X SE as it features a built-in load box;
your amp is therefore provided with a safe load at all times when connected to the SPEAKER INPUT.
To use the attenuator, connect a cabinet to the SPEAKER OUT of the Captor X SE. You
can then activate the attenuator with the 3-way Volume Level switch.
You have 3 settings for the Volume Level of the cabinet:
FULL: the attenuator is bypassed. The full power delivered by the amp is passed on to the
cabinet and the impedance seen by the amp is that of the cabinet. In this case, use the amp's
speaker output that matches the cabinet (for example: for a 16 Ohms cabinet, use the 16 Ohms
output of your amplifier regardless of the impedance of the Captor X SE).
"HALFWAY" (unlabelled): the attenuator is activated and the level of your cabinet's output is
dimmed by 20dB. In this case, the amp is seeing the impedance of the Captor X SE. This level is
considered to be very useful when using your cabinet on stage.
LOW: The attenuator is fully activated and the level is reduced by 38dB - in this case, the amp is
seeing the impedance of Captor X SE. This level is designed to allow you to play your tube amp
at home. In most situations this will fully attenuate your amplifier, but some signal may still
pass to your cabinet.
2. Captor X SE at home
2.1 Silent use
The Torpedo Captor X SE is a reactive load box. This allows you to play your tube amp without using a
cabinet - perfect for recording or practicing at any time of the day or night. For this scenario type,
connect your amp to the SPEAKER IN of Captor X SE and listen to your tube amp via the headphone
output, or via monitors connected to the dual XLR DI outputs.
