Checking the Tension of the
Tracks
No Parts Required
Procedure
Important: It is normal for the tracks to stretch the
first time that you use them. Adjust the tension of the
tracks after the first 25 operating hours to prevent the
components from wearing prematurely. Improperly
tensioned tracks can lead to premature wearing or loss
of track components. Check the tension of the tracks
regularly.

Signs
Too loose
The track
disengages in the
traction teeth of the
sprocket wheel.
There is a
significant increase
in vibration.
Too tight
The track loses a
significant amount
of power and
revolution speed.
1. Raise the machine and position it horizontally.
2. Rotate the track so that the model/serial number plate
of the track is between the smaller wheels.
3. Put a 45 kg (100 lb) round bar into the track between
the lugs and between the 2 smaller wheels.
Note: A steel bar 6.35 cm (2-1/2 inches) in diameter
and 183 cm (72 inches) long works.
4. Measure the distance (gap) between the inner surface
of the track and the track beam

of the track coming
off.
The track, ball
bearings, sprocket
wheel stems,
and planetary
gear box all wear
prematurely.

5. Repeat this measurement 5 pitches ahead and 5 pitches
after the location of the model/serial number plate.
Note: Rotate the track so that all these positions are
located between the 2 smaller wheels.
Note: The maximum allowable distance should be
within 83 to 89 mm (3-1/4 to 3-1/2 inches) from the
track inner surface and the track beam.
6. Adjust the adjusters for the track as needed.
7. Lower the machine to the ground.
