The certification is not a guarantee for that the realized functional safety is sufficient for any machine. The
OEM system integrator is responsible for analyzing the hazard and risks for a particular machine and
evaluate if the risks are sufficiently reduced by the provided safety functions.
The OEM integrator is responsible for the following:
Maintaining an organization responsible for functional safety of the system
Ensuring that only authorized and trained personnel perform functional safety related work
Choosing reliable components
Completing a System Hazard & Risk Analysis and establishing the required risk reduction targets
Reassessing the hazard & risk every time the system is changed
Ensuring that the derived risks are properly reduced by the safety functions provided by the JS1-H
Steer by Wire steering joystick
Approving certification and homologation of the entire system to the desired risk reduction level
Installation, set-up, safety assessment, and validation of the interfacing sensor sub-systems
Validating that the safety functions reduce the risks as expected
Any related non-safety standards that should be fulfilled for the application and its components
Verifying the environmental robustness suitability of the JS1-H Steer by Wire steering joystick to
installation in the final system in its surrounding environment
Periodically inspecting for errata information updates
The following illustration shows the abstract safety architecture of JS1-H Steer by Wire. Due to the
applicable safety requirements, the joystick implements different levels of redundancy for securing
safety-related functions.
