Setting the SCSI IDs
After you have installed the new drive, verify the settings of the SCSI ID switches,
located just above the drive access area. A SCSI Spectra 2K library may require up to
three SCSI ID's depending on the number of drives installed. Verify that each of the SCSI
ID's are set correctly; the library and each drive must have its own number. A Fibre
Channel Spectra 2K has only Library and Config switches on the rear panel. For Fibre
Channel, make sure the Library switch is set to "2".
Completing the Drive Upgrade Process
1. Check your operating system manual, and follow instructions as necessary (for
example, reconfigure the kernel) to make sure the operating system recognizes
the new drive files.
2. Power on the library.
3. Load AIT-5 tapes, then test your drives. For example, back up a set of data that
includes one executable program; restore the data to a temporary directory;
then read the restored data and run a restored program. Refer to your backup
software documentation for a more specific procedure. After you have
performed a drive test successfully, continue.
4. Restart backup processes
Returning Old Drives
To return old drives to Spectra Logic (for example, if you are trading in the drives, or if
you pre-purchased the new drives), use the drive packaging and return the drives to
Spectra Logic (North America) or contact Support for assistance in determining how to
return the drives.
