3. Off-season storage

Be sure to disconnect fuel connector
except when operating engine.
Fuel leakage is a fire or explosion hazard,
which can cause serious injury or death.

Be sure to use cloth to remove fuel remain-
ing in the cowl and dispose of it in accor-
d an c e w i t h l o c a l f ir e pr e ve n t i o n an d
environment protection regulations.
Before you put your outboard motor in
storage, it is a good opportunity to have
it serviced by your dealer.
Be sure to use fuel stabilizer while run-
ning the motor before storage. (See
page 57)

Engine
1. Wash the engine exterior and flush
the cooling water system thoroughly

with fresh water. Drain the water
completely.
Wipe off any surface water with an
oily rag.
2. Remove the fuel hose from the out-
board motor.

3. Drain all fuel from the fuel hoses and
carburetor (See page 57), and clean
these parts.
Keep in mind that if residue in the
carburetor for a long time, gum and
varnish will develop, causing the float
valve to stick, restricting the fuel flow.
4. Remove the spark plugs and put a
teaspoon of engine oil or spray stor-
age oil into the combustion chamber
through the spark plug holes.
5. Pull the recoil starter several turns to
lubricate inside the cylinder.

WARNING
Be sure to remove stop switch lock to
prevent the spark plugs from igniting.
Put a cloth to spark plug hole and wipe up
any spilled engine oil, when cranking the
outboard motor.
6. Change the gear oil in the gear case
(See page 50).
7. Apply grease to grease point (See
page 55).
8. Stand the outboard motor up verti-
cally in a dry area.
