MOWER MAINTENANCE

Engine Detail

NOTE: Disconnect the spark plug lead and ensure the fuel
shutoff valve is in the OFF position before performing any
maintenance procedures.
WARNING: Improper maintenance, use of non-conforming
replacement components, or the removal or modifi cation of
the engine may cause serious injury or death.

Carburetor Adjustments

These adjustments should only be made by an authorised Honda
dealer. Under no circumstances should the engine be adjusted
to run at a speed in excess of that shown on the Declaration of
Conformity.

Oil Service

WARNING: Fuel and its vapours are extremely fl ammable
and explosive. Fire or explosion can cause severe burns or
death.
Check the oil level before every use when starting the engine
and ensure that the correct oil level is maintained. Refer to
Assembling the Mower Before First Use for oil checking and
fi lling instructions.
Change the engine oil after the fi rst 5 hours of operation and

thereafter according to the Maintenance Schedule.
Drain the fuel by running the engine until the fuel tank is
empty.
Remove the spark plug lead.
Allow the engine to cool.
Drain the oil whilst the engine is warm (not hot).
Tilt the mower over onto its side ensuring that the air fi lter
is kept uppermost to prevent engine damage.
Remove the oil fi ller dipstick and drain the oil into a suitable
container.
Refi ll with new oil of the recommended SAE viscosity grade.
Refer to Assembling the Mower Before First Use.

Air Filter Service

WARNING: Never start and run the engine with the air
fi lter removed.
Do not use solvents to clean the fi lter. Solvents will dissolve
the fi lter.
To service the air fi lter, press the latch tabs on the top of the air
fi lter cover (1), and remove the cover.

Remove fi lter (2) and tap gently on a hard fl at surface to remove
dirt, or blow compressed air not exceeding 30 psi (207 kPa)
through the fi lter from the clean side that faces the engine.
Never try to brush off dirt. Brushing will force dirt into the fi bres.
Wipe dirt from the air fi lter body and cover (1) using a moist rag.
Be careful to prevent dirt from entering the air duct that leads to
the carburetor.
If very dirty, replace.
