The system supports capacity expansion operations by adding new disks or disk shelves while the system is powered on. The
chapter contained in this part provides overview information and instructions to verify the system health before adding storage
to the system.
If the total capacity after the expansion will exceed 630 TB, complete the memory expansion as described in the Data Domain
DD9500 and DD9800 Systems DIMM and Riser Card Replacement and Memory Upgrade and the cache SSD expansion
described in this document.

About this task
Verify the system is healthy and ready for expansion before proceeding with the upgrade procedure.
Steps
1. Log in as a sysadmin user.
2. Display the current alerts on the system.
Run the following command: alerts show current
# alerts show current
No active alerts.
3. Resolve all displayed alerts.
4. Run the filesys disable command to disable the file system.
Add Cache Tier storage
Upgrading the Active Tier storage capacity on a DD9800 system above 630 TB raw (504 TB usable) requires adding a total of
seven additional cache SSDs to the FS15 shelf.
Prerequisites
Complete the memory upgrade procedure as described in the Data Domain DD9500/DD9800 System DIMM and Memory Card
Riser Replacement and Memory Upgrade before adding new cache SSDs.
About this task
There are eight cache SSDs located in slots 0-7 of the FS15 shelf. Active Tier capacity upgrades above 630 TB require 15 SSDs
installed in the FS15 shelf
