Automatic refrigerant charge

This unit only use R410A refrigerant. Charging with an unsuitable substance or other refrigerant may cause accident.
SMMS∞ contains refrigerant automatic charge function.
Using this function, outdoor units recognize amount of charge refrigerant by refrigerant cycle data, even if you do
not know all pipe sizes and lengths of system.
Before starting automatic refrigerant charge, the setting below should be all finished.
Piping installation ⇒ Airtightness test ⇒ Vacuum drying ⇒ Electric wiring ⇒ Address setting
Checklist before starting automatic charge setting
• Turn on all outdoor and indoor units power at least 12 hours before starting a automatic refrigerant charge to
protect the compressor during startup.
• If the control wiring to a different system is improperly connected or if there is an abnormality in the indoor unit,
the proper amount of refrigerant will not be charged by automatic refi gerant charge. Therefore, when charging
the refrigerant with automatic refrigerant charge, be sure to do the "blower / test run mode" below to ensure that
the indoor unit of the same refrigerant system is used.
INFORMATION
• It can not be checked if the remote controller is group controlled and is used across the refrigerant system.
Remove the remote control wiring only for the indoor unit of another system.
• Check for each refrigerant system. It cannot be confi rmed if multiple systems are tested with a blower / test run
mode at the same time.
• Check for incorrect piping in advance.

1
Is the wind blowing only from the outdoor units connected
to the refrigerant system.
Answer yes ⇒ Go on to the next question
Answer no ⇒ Check the control wiring.

Is the inspection code displayed on the remote control?
Answer yes ⇒ Correct the defect according to the
inspection code.
Answer no ⇒ Go on to No. 4

SW02 and SW03 to set as described on the right.
• Do not turn off the Indoor or outdoor units during automatic refrigerant charging.
• Do not perform applied control of outdoor or indoor units at the same time during automatic refrigerant charging.
• Do not change setting by remote controller such as DN codes at the same time during automatic refrigerant
charging.
• Connect the refrigerant cylinder so that it is fi lled with liquid refrigerant.
• Do not open the front panel on the front left, open only the front right. Otherwise the refrigerant charging
accuracy become poor.

Flowchart of automatic refrigerant charge
Before charge refrigerant automatically, knowing the size and length of the refrigerant pipe will determine how the
refrigerant is charged.
Follow the flowchart below to charge the refrigerant. This flowchart is written simply about the procedure of
automatic refrigerant charge. Please check details on below chapter.

Pre-charge
How to charge refrigerant differs depending on whether the pipe length and size is known or not. Calculate the
amount of refrigerant according to the following procedure and start precharging.
◆ Knowing refrigerant pipe sizes and lengths (Able to calculate additional
refrigerant). Check chapter 7 Adding refrigerant
Additional refrigerant charge amount at site = [1] + [2] + [3]
[1] Compensation by system HP (Table 1)*
[2] Actual length of liquid pipe X additional refrigerant charge amount per 1 m liquid pipe (Table 2)
[3] Corrective amount of refrigerant depending on the Indoor units (Table 3-1, 3-2, 3-3 and 3-4)
• Keeping the valve of the outdoor unit closed, be sure to charge the liquid refrigerant into the service port at the
liquid side.
• If the specifi ed amount of refrigerant cannot be charged, there are two ways to charge refrigerant. They are
manual and automatic to charge additional refrigerant.
