Usage
4.1

Before use

The chemical protective suit must be used in accordance with the valid standards
and guidelines of the respective country.
The concentration of chemicals present in the environment must be determined
before use; determining the suitability of the chemical protective suit must not be
carried out for the first time just before use. The chemical protective suit must be
suitable for the usage. The user must consult national or other applicable PPE
requirements for use.
4.2

Notes on handling the closure system

The closure system has been specially developed for the chemical protective
suits. Generally, the additional seals make mobility more difficult in comparison
to zip fasteners on normal clothing. To prevent the closure system wrinkling, the
open section of the closure system must be moved without tension and without
twisting. At the same time, the closed section must be secured with one hand.
The wearer of the protective suit should be standing when opening and closing
the closure system.
CAUTION
!
To prevent damage to the closure system, both halves of the zipper
must be parallel and unstressed. Do not use force when opening and
closing the closure system and do not execute any sudden pulling
movements.
Closure systems without sufficient lubrication are more difficult to
operate. This can result in damage to the closure system. Lubricate
the closure system using the grease pencil distributed by Dräger.
4.2.1 Opening the closure system
Fully open the closure system.
Always pull zipper tab in direction of zipper mechanism; ensure that the
closure system is pulled in a straight line!
Do not use force. The zipper teeth could become twisted!
If the zipper tab gets caught, pull it back and push it forwards again.
12
4.2.2 Closing the closure system
If the closure system is closed, avoid crosswise tension on the slider.
Pull together the zipper mechanism using your hand.
The slider can then be pulled up more easily.
Make sure that no foreign objects such as shirt, jacket, threads, etc. get
caught between the zipper teeth when closing the closure system.
Grease the closure system well after each use. Only use the Dräger grease
pencil for this purpose.
4.3

Preparing the chemical protective suit

Place the chemical protective suit flat on the ground.
Check the chemical protective suit (see Section 5 on Page 13).
Only use chemical protective suits that are clean and dry.
WARNING

Otherwise there is a danger of death.

Observe during use

WARNING
!
Strictly observe the following notes during use. Non-observance can
cause injury or death.
Never start using when alone!
Observe the period of use, service life or specific national regulations.
Heat accumulation in the chemical protective suit can cause the wearer to
collapse. For this reason, it may be necessary to wear a comfort vest under
the suit.
Particularly in cases of cold or dryness, it may be that the chemical
protective suit becomes charged with static electricity and then discharges
this electricity. As a rule, the discharge is only dangerous if an electric spark
can ignite the ambient air. When working around flammable chemicals,
measures must be taken to prevent an explosion. These include, for
example, sleeves, increasing the humidity in the workspace, or using anti-
static means.
