Installation and maintenance should be performed by experienced technicians only. The SuperServer 6017R-TDAF is a high-end server based on the SC815TQ-600CB 1U rackmount chassis and the Super X9DRD-iF serverboard.

    Chapter 1 Introduction Overview The SuperServer 6017R-TDAF is a high-end server comprised of two main sub- systems: the SC815TQ-600CB 1U chassis and the X9DRD-iF serverboard. Please refer to our web site for information on operating systems that have been certifi ed for use with the system (www.supermicro.com).

    ERVER 6017R-TDAF User's Manual Serverboard Features At the heart of the SuperServer 6017R-TDAF lies the X9DRD-iF, a dual processor serverboard based on Intel's C600 chipset. Below are the main features of the X9DRD-iF (see Figure 1-1 for a block diagram of the chipset).

System Power The SC815TQ-600CB features a single 600W power supply. The system must be shut down when replacing or removing the power supply module.     Chapter 2: Server Installation Rack Mounting Considerations Ambient Operating Temperature If installed in a closed or multi-unit rack assembly, the ambient operating tempera- ture of the rack environment may be greater than the ambient temperature of the room. Therefore, consideration should be given to installing the equipment in an environment compatible with the manufacturer’s maximum rated ambient tempera- ture (Tmra).

If the system has already been mounted into a rack, you can skip ahead to Sections 2-5 and 2-6. There are a variety of rack units on the market, which may mean the assembly procedure will differ slightly.

A connection to the SATA backplane enables this LED to blink on and off when that particular drive is being accessed.

The necessary drivers are all included on the Supermicro CD that came packaged with your serverboard. After inserting this CD into your CD-ROM drive, the display shown in Figure 5-6 should appear.

For component installation, follow the steps in the order given to eliminate the most common problems encountered. If some steps are unnecessary, skip ahead to the next step.

System Cooling Fans Drive Bay Installation/Removal Removing the Front Bezel If your system has a front bezel (optional) attached to the chassis, you must fi rst remove it to gain access to the drive bays. To remove the bezel, fi rst unlock the front of the chassis then press the release knob (see Figure 6-3).

Proceed to the next section for instructions.

These carriers also help promote proper airfl ow for the drive bays. For this reason, even empty carriers without drives installed must remain in the chassis.

The 6017R-TDAF accomodates only slim-line DVD-ROM drives. Side mounting brackets are needed to mount a slim-line DVD-ROM drive in the 6017R-TDAF server.

    Chapter 6: Advanced Chassis Setup Power Supply The SuperServer 6017R-TDAF has a single 600 watt power supply, which is auto- switching capable. This enables it to automatically sense and operate with a 100v - 240v input voltage. Power Supply Failure If the power supply module fails, the system will shut down and you will need to replace the module.
