7. HMI & Control
The Hydrox HCU Remote is controlled automatically by a Programmable Logic Controller. This control-
ler can be interacted by means of a Human Machine Interface (HMI) connected to it. This section briefly
explains how the control architecture is set up, while the following section focuses on the functions that
the HMI provides to the user of the system to interact with the capabilities of the PLC.
7.1. Control architecture
Figure 11 highlights how every component is connected and controlled by the PLC. The PLC communi-
cates with the HMI and the motor drive via ProfiNET. The user can interact with the HMI and additional
physical control buttons as shown in section 5.2. of the previous section. The PLC controls the speed of
opening/closing the valve by regulating the speed of the motor (and therefore the flow rate exerted on the
valve actuator). Based on the position transmitter the PLC regulates the operation speed of the closing
and opening of the valves (depending on the size of the valve).
