TARTED
automatically turns its red dot off if a measurement
has not been taken within a predetermined time
limit. The first press will turn on the red dot, the
second press will take the measurement. You may
have a fixed-crosshair scope on your Impulse, in
which case two button presses are not needed to
take a measurement.
After a brief delay, the instrument emits a high-
pitched beep and displays something like this:

The large number in the center of the display is the
distance to the target.
"DNLD" (in the lower right quadrant) means the
number is available at the serial port. If you have a
connection to a data logger or notebook computer,
you could download the number to be stored and
saved.
If you like, feel free to try some more button
presses and take more measurements. The
important thing for the moment is that you have
experienced the Impulse's basic point-and-shoot
operation, and you have a feel for how the
instrument uses indicators on the screen to let you
know what operations are available to you at any
given time.
