Introducing the DocuPrint 900/1300

Duplex Printer Cabinet

The duplex printer cabinet contains the electronics for print and process
control and the devices for paper transport and printing. Major components of
this cabinet include:
Dual print engines
Two print engine card cages
Operator control panel
Main switch and circuit breaker panel
Printing system support devices
 AC boxes
 Auxiliary card cages
 Top-of-form board
 Print engine encoders
 Eye-mark sensor assembly
 Web phasing system
 Web-break sensors
 Pneumatic systems
 Tension control system
 Drive train
The print engine is a high-speed non-impact printing mechanism. The print
engine is responsible for generating the latent electrostatic image on the
imaging drum, for toning and fusing that image, then for cleaning the imaging
drum for the next print cycle. For an overview of the printing process, refer to
the section "The Printing Process" later in this chapter.

Radiant Fuser Cabinet

The radiant fuser cabinet contains two radiant heater assemblies, one for each
side of the page. The assemblies generate a high concentration of heat where
the web passes through. This allows fusing of both sides of the paper at the
same time.

Fuser Control Cabinet

The fuser control cabinet distributes power to the radiant lamps in the fuser
cabinet. It also monitors and controls the radiant fuser cabinet.
Vacuum Cabinet
The vacuum cabinet is a sealed enclosure placed at the rear of the duplex
printer cabinet. It provides service access to the vacuum pump and filter. This
system removes stray toner particles from the cleaning system of each print
engine. Filters are used to remove the toner and to dissipate ozones.

Power Tower

The power tower is a sealed enclosure attached to the rear of the duplex
printer cabinet. This cabinet contains the:
Signal lamp
Warning horn
Programmable logic controller (PLC)
Web guide controller
DC power supplies
Drive train motor that powers the print engines

Computer Cabinet

The computer cabinet is a sealed enclosure with front and rear service access
doors. Both doors are secured with key locks for safety and security. This
cabinet contains the:
Page tracker computer
Service switch
100BASE-T hub
VISTA PC base unit
Uninterruptible power supply (UPS)
Optional cartridge tape drive

Large Roll Unwinder

The printing system accepts a continuous paper stream from the large roll
unwinder. A large roll of paper is approximately 50 inches (1270 mm) in
diameter and contains approximately 40,000 feet (12,192 meters) of 20-pound
(80 gsm) bond paper.

Output Pacer

The output pacer provides the constant tension required to pull the web
through the radiant fuser and into the post-processing equipment.
Printhead Washer/Dryer Unit
The portable printhead washer/dryer unit is used to clean printheads.
Printheads are removed from the print engine and placed in this unit where
they are washed and dried. Washing a printhead greatly extends its life.
