Operator Interface
Before You Begin
This section contains information on the following:
Prerequisite knowledge
Using the mouse
Swapping console control
Prerequisite Knowledge
As a user, you must have a certain amount of background knowledge in order
to operate within the various operator interface environments successfully.
This chapter assumes basic knowledge in basic PC operations, such as
opening a window and entering basic commands, and a basic understanding
of OS/2 and Windows NT.
Mastering these environments involves understanding the following system
features:
Multitasking
Folders and objects
Use of the mouse and keyboard
Structure of pathnames and directories
Escape and Function key use.
Many functions can be completed quickly by using shortcut
Note
(accelerator) keys. Accelerator keys are shown in Appendix B.
The user will also need some experience and understanding of the capabilities
of the DocuPrint 900/1300 printing system and the software architecture
which operates it.
Xerox Users- knowledge of Xerox Print Description Language (PDL) and
the ability to edit Xerox Job Source Library (JSL) and Job Description
Language (JDL) files. Users should refer to the relevant Xerox PDL/
DJDE Reference Manual for more information on PDL.
AFP users - knowledge and some experience of AFP in either a host or
PSF/2 PC environment.

Using the Mouse
The system monitor, keyboard, and mouse are the main tools for you to
interact with the DocuPrint 900/1300 printing system. The two-button mouse
shown below is attached to a serial port at the back of the computer. When
you move the mouse, a mouse pointer on the screen moves its position
accordingly. Always use the mouse left button unless specifically told
otherwise.
The following terms are used to describe actions taken with a mouse:

Point
Position the mouse pointer on an item or object.
Click
Point to an item or object, and then quickly press and release
the mouse button.
Double-click
Point to an item or object, and click the mouse button twice
quickly.
Select
Point to an item and click the mouse button.
Open
Point to an item and double-click the mouse button.
