Removing and Installing the Backplane

The F424AF chassis backplane is located behind the hard drives and in front of the
motherboard in each motherboard node. Although backplane failure rarely occurs,
in the event of a backplane failure, follow the instructions below.

Removing the Backplane

Removing the Backplane from the Chassis
1. Power down the system and remove the power cord from the rear of the
power supply as described in Section 6-3. Remove the node from the chassis
as described in Section 6-4 and place the node on a fl at, stable surface.
2. Remove the node cover (see 6-6 Removing the Node Cover) from the node.
3. Ensure that all of the hard drive carriers have been removed from the bays in
the front of the node (see 6-4 Installing and Removing Hard Drives).
4. Remove all cables from the backplane connecting the motherboard to the
front hard disk drive (HDD) cage in the node.
5. Remove the HDD cage from the front of the node.
6. Remove the six screws securing the backplane to the rear of the HDD cage.
7. Remove the backplane from the HDD cage and lift the backplane up and off
of the HDD cage.
