ERROR CODE DIAGNOSTICS

ERROR A072

Turn Power OFF
Remove connector "H" and terminal on flame
rod, and reinsert them.
Turn power ON and operate unit.
Did error code
"A072" appear?
Yes
Turn Power OFF. Unplug unit and plug back in.
Turn Power ON.
Recycle Power While viewing through sight
glass, turn on water flow to begin ignition
sequence.
Is flame visible
before igniter rod
Yes
Operate unit.
If the error code "A072" error code appears
and flame is visible before igniter
rod sparks:
Replace Gas-Air-ratio valve.

Unit had a loose connection or
No
foreign debris that is no longer
present.
Until appears to be operating.
No
Operate unit again
Does "flame rod status" in
maintenance mode
indicate presence of flame
before igniter rod sparks?
Yes
Turn power OFF with unplug unit
and disconnect wires at flame
rod(s).
While viewing burner chamber
through sight glass:
Operate unit again.
Does "flame rod status" in
maintenance mode
indicate presence of flame
before igniter rod
sparks?
Yes
Replace control board
EXPLANATION
Flame rod malfunction
If the flame rod detects presence of flame be-
fore igniter is activated, the water heater dis-
plays the "A072" error code on the User Inter-
face.
Diagnostic check items
Flame rod
Gas-air ratio valve
Go to "STATUS" mode and use the [up] or [down]
to "Tankless Status", and press "ENTER".
Use the "▼" or "▲" to "Flame Rod Status" while
the unit is operating.
Unit appears to be OK.
No
Did error code "A072" appear?
Replace control board
Clean flame rod.
If the error code "A072" appears
after cleaning flame rod:
Replace flame rod.
No

WARNING: When cleaning or replacing the flame
rod/igniter rod, you must replace the gasket with the
Rheem approved gasket (a spare gasket is provided
with the unit). Improper sealing of the flame rod/
igniter rod due to a damaged or missing gasket can
cause unsafe operation that could damage the OHL
and permanently disable the water heater.
