Using the Printer's Documentation

This printer comes with documentation in printed form and documentation provided on
a CD-ROM.

• To view the MEP-PC10 PC Application User's Guide, you fi rst need to copy the PDF

Installing the Software

Installation of the software that come with the printer is explained in this manual based
on a computer running the English version of Windows XP, with English selected as the
display language. Screens produced by other operating systems or when another display
language is selected may be different from the screen shots shown here.
For information about basic Windows operations, refer to the user documentation that
came with your computer or your computer's help feature.

Precautions when Installing and Uninstalling

• If you have a previous version of the software installed on your computer, use Add or
Remove Programs on the Windows Control Panels to uninstall it before installing this
software.
• Note that you will need to log in to your system with an administrator account or an
account with administrator privileges in order to install or uninstall software.

Read This Before Installing the Software!

Important!
• Do not connect the printer to your computer until you install the software on your
computer. The software may not operate correctly if you install it after connecting the
printer.
• Trying to install the software while virus checker software is running on your computer
can cause errors and/or warning messages to appear on your computer during
installation. If this happens, perform the following steps.
1. Exit the installer and uninstall the software that was installed up to this point.
2. Exit the virus checker software and all other software currently running on your
computer.
3. Restart the installer.
4. After installing the software, restart the programs you exited in step 2, above.
In this manual, drive D: is assumed as the CD drive.

About the Provided CD-ROM

Handling Precautions

• When handling the disk, make sure to avoid getting fi ngerprints or dirt on either side of
it, and make sure not to scratch or damage the disk surface.
• If the disk becomes dirty, clean it with a soft, dry cloth (like the one use for cleaning
eyeglasses), wiping from the center of the disk in a motion that radiates outwards. Do
not use a phonograph record cleaner or other cleaning agents to clean a disk.
• Do not write or draw on either surface of the disk with a pencil, ballpoint pen or other
hard pointed writing implement, and do not affi x stickers to the disk.
• Never use a disk that is cracked, warped, or repaired with glue or by any other means.
Doing so is dangerous.

Storage Precautions

• Avoid storing in locations exposed to high temperature, high humidity, and direct
sunlight when storing the disk.
• After using the disk, store it in the case it came in when you bought the printer.
• Avoid storing the disk in a soft case or bag that comes into direct contact with the label
side of the disk.
Warning
Never try to use the CD-ROM in a device that is not intended for CD-ROM reading.
Playing back the CD-ROM on a music CD drive will output sound at a volume that can
damage your ears or the speakers of an audio system.

Operating Environment Required by the Software

PC/AT compatible computer that satisfi es the conditions below.
• Pre-installed with one of the above operating systems.
• CPU recommended for the operating system being used.
• USB port installed as standard.
Memory
At least 128 MB of memory recommended for the operating system being
used.
Hard Disk
At least 120 MB of free space.
CD drive
For installation
• Any other system requirements recommended by the operating system being used.
• Certain equipment confi gurations may not support proper operation.
• This software will not run on Windows XP 64-bit versions.
• Operation is not guaranteed on an operating system that has been upgraded or
modifi ed in any way from the pre-installed state.
■ To install the software
1.
Before starting installation, exit all other programs currently running on your computer.
• Failure to do so can result in improper installation.
2.
Place the printer's CD-ROM into your computer's CD drive.
This should cause the screen shown nearby to appear automatically.
• The screen may not appear automatically on some computers. If that happens on
your computer, go to your Windows Start menu, select Run..., input D:\setup.exe
(don't forget to use the correct drive name in place of D:) into the text box on the
screen that appears, and then click OK.
• If your computer is running Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista, an AutoPlay
menu will start up at this time. Select Run setup.exe under "Install or run program
from your media" or "Install or run program". When the user account control
dialog box appears, click Yes or Continue.
3.
Select the installation language and then click OK.
This will start installation. Follow the instructions on your screen.
• A message will appear on your screen to let you know when installation is complete.
• If your computer is running Windows 8, Windows 7, or Windows Vista, the message
shown below will appear during installation. Click Install to proceed with the
installation.
