Pans made of copper, aluminium or ceramic are not suitable
for use on an induction hob. The kind of pan you use and the
quantity of food affects the setting required. Higher settings
are required for larger quantities of food.
Pots and pans should have thick, smooth, flat bottoms
(Fig. 2.3). This allows the maximum heat transfer from the
hob to the pan, making cooking quick and energy efficient.
Never use a round-bottomed wok, even with a stand.
The very best pans have bases that are very slightly curved up
when cold. If you hold a ruler across the bottom you will see
a small gap in the middle (Fig. 2.4). When they heat up the
metal expands and lies flat on the cooking surface.
Make sure that the base of the pan is clean and dry to prevent
any residue burning onto the hob panel. This also helps
prevent scratches and deposits.
Take care when placing hot lids onto the hob
n
surface. Lids that have been covering boiling or
steaming foods can 'stick' to the ceramic glass.
Should this occur, DO NOT attempt to lift the lid
off the hotplate: this may damage the hob surface.
Instead, slide the lid to the edge of the hob surface
and remove.
Always use pans that are the same size as the areas marked
on the hob. Using a lid will help the contents boil more
quickly.
Always take care before touching the surface, even
n
when the hob is turned off. It may be hotter than you
think!
The ratings of the different cooking areas are shown in
Fig. 2.7.
The hob control display informs you of the following
induction hob functions:
Pan detector
H
Residual heat indicator
• L
Child lock
• P Power boost setting
DO NOT use concave or convex bottomed cookware.
Cookware made from aluminium and stainless steel with
nonferromagnetic bottom, glass, copper, brass, ceramic,
porcelain are unsuitable for induction heating.
When using certain pans, you may hear various noises
coming from them, this is due to the design of the pans and
does not affect the performance or safety of the hob.
To achieve the best cooking performance, the pan should be
placed in the center of the cooking zone.
