Freewheel Device
When the Rhythm SL is switched off with DRIVE
selected on both DRIVE / FREEWHEEL Levers
then the Powerchair brakes are automatically
engaged. This is called "Failsafe Braking". Also, if
the batteries are fully discharged then the brakes
will still function. However there may be occasions
that there is a need to move the vehicle without
power.

FREEWHEEL WITHOUT THE SUPPORT OF
AN ATTENDANT.
There are Freewheel Devices fitted on each motor.
The Freewheel devices allow the vehicle to be
pushed without power. To activate, first locate the
levers on the top and rear of the rear cover (see
Fig.8).
1. Ensure the powerchair is switched-off at the
Joystick Controller.
2. Rotate both levers through 90 degrees to the
FREEWHEEL position (See Fig.9).
3. The Powerchair cannot be pushed by the
attendant in FREEWHEEL mode.

Note
: that if the levers are too stiff to move a small
movement of the Powerchair back or forward will
make it easier to operate the levers. Request the
dealer to demonstrate this feature.

Rotate BOTH levers in the opposite direction
towards the DRIVE position to engage drive. The
vehicle is now braked automatically and ready to
drive. NEVER sit on the Powerchair without both
levers being in the DRIVE position.
Check that both DRIVE levers are engaged by
attempting to push the powerchair to check brakes
are engaged.
Warning!
If the freewheel devices are in
"FREEWHEEL" the braking is disabled. NEVER
SELECT THE FREEWHEEL DEVICES IF THE
POWERCHAIR IS ON A SLOPE OR COULD BE
PUSHED ONTO A SLOPE.
Warning
! NEVER sit on the Powerchair without
both levers being in the DRIVE position without
the support of an assistant or attendant.
Warning
! NEVER leave one motor in DRIVE and
the other in FREEWHEEL. Could result in damage
to the Powerchair or cause injury.
Brakes
There are 2 braking systems. The first works with
the joystick. When the joystick is released the
Powerchair will automatically brake. When the
Powerchair stops the automatic handbrake will
engage. This will stop the vehicle rolling forward or
backward.
When you
automatically disengage.
If the battery should go flat the brakes automatically
engage provided DRIVE is selected on the
Freewheel levers – see Freewheel Device section
of this manual.
