Technical Requirements

Sync Source

The Duality console does not require a synchronisation source for operation.
A MIDI timecode connector is provided for workstation timecode interface.
Power Connections
The console is fitted with auto-sensing power supplies which will function at any voltage from 100 to 240 volts ±10%
without adjustment.
A console is supplied with one IEC mains power-lead for every 24 channel bay fitted (the Centre section is powered from
the bay to its left). A 48ch console is therefore supplied with two power leads, a 72ch console with three and four leads
for a 96 channel console. The leads are 2m in length and are unterminated at the supply end to allow for user connection
to a suitable outlet. The wires are colour-coded according to the EC standard.
It is important that all power leads are connected to a single outlet connection so that the console can be powered by
using a single switch. Refer to diagram opposite for preferred mains provision arrangement.
A console fitted with PSU redundancy will be supplied with two mains leads per 24-channel bay.
See Appendix A page 42 for console power requirements.

UPS Provision

Where either the primary or backup supply of mains power is provided from an uninterruptable source (UPS) the
output waveform of the UPS equipment must be of the sinusoidal variety. Switched or stepped output waveforms may
cause damage to the console power supplies so must not be used.

Air Conditioning

The maximum power dissipation of the 48 channel Duality console is approximately 1,540W (2,200W for 72ch and 2,860
for 96ch). When all the studio equipment is taken into consideration, particularly if additional lighting is being installed, the
combined heat output could be sufficient to cause the temperature to rise to uncomfortable levels. It is therefore likely
that air conditioning will be required.
The Appendix section F, page 42, lists the environmental specifications for SSL equipment.

Grounding

A standard system should not require any additional grounding over and above that supplied by a correctly installed mains
supply. All console metalwork is permanently bonded to mains earth. A permanent mains earth connection, via the mains
inlet, must be provided.
A console chassis connection is provided adjacent to the XLR input for channel one at the rear of the console.
All audio connectors have their screen pins connected directly to the chassis at the point of entry to comply with AES/EBU
grounding and EMC standards.

Workstation interface

DAW interface is via standard MIDI 5-pin DIN connectors or over Ethernet ip MIDI.
A built-in trackball is fitted adjacent to the master fader as a pointing device. The output is accessed via a USB-A socket
on the rear panel of the Centre section.
