Fuel System

Only use the grades of fuel recommended in the fuel
specification, refer to Technical Data, page 77.
Always observe the greatest cleanliness during
refueling and work on the fuel system.
All work on the injectors of the engine must be carried
out by an authorized Volvo Penta workshop.
WARNING!
Fire hazard. When carrying out work on the fuel system
make sure the engine is cold. A fuel spill onto a hot
surface or an electrical component can cause a fire.
Store fuel soaked rags so that they cannot cause fire.
WARNING!
Store fuel soaked rags and other flammable material
so that there is no danger of them catching fire. Fuel
soaked rags can ignite spontaneously under certain
conditions.

Bleeding the Fuel System

The fuel system must be vented, e.g. after changing a
fuel filter, if the fuel tank has been run dry and after long
stops.
1 Place a suitable vessel underneath the hose.
2 Remove the protective cap from the bleeding nipple
(1) on the filter bracket and connect a rubber hose.
3 Open the bleeding nipple and pump up fuel with the
hand pump (2) until air-free fuel flows out. Tighten
the venting nipple while fuel is flowing out.
4 Fold the hose back and put the protective cap back
on the venting nipple.
5 Run the engine at idling speed for a couple of
minutes to allow any remaining air out of the
system. Make sure there are no leaks.
