17 General Power Tool Safety
Warnings
17.1
Introduction
This chapter reproduces the pre-formulated, gen‐
eral safety precautions specified in the
IEC 62841 (EN 62841) standard for electric
motor-operated hand-held tools.
STIHL is required to reproduce the wording.
The safety advice described under "Electrical
Safety" for avoiding electric shock does not apply
to STIHL cordless products.
WARNING
Read all the safety precautions, instructions,
illustrations and specifications accompanying this
electric power tool. Failure to follow the safety
warnings and instructions may result in electric
shock, fire and/or serious injury. Keep all safety
warnings and instructions for future reference.
The term "electric power tool" used in the safety
advice refers to electric power tools powered by
mains electricity (by means of a power cord) or
electric power tools powered by rechargeable
batteries (without a power cord).
17.2
Work area safety
a) Keep your work area clean and well lit. Clut‐
tered or dark areas invite accidents.
b) Do not work with the electric power tool in
potentially explosive environments in which
there are inflammable liquids, gases or
dusts. Electric power tools create sparks,
which can ignite dusts or fumes.
c) Keep children and other people away while
you are operating the electric power tool.
