PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance introduction
The Dell PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance model DM5500 is an integrated solution that offers industry-leading de-
duplication and data protection solutions. The PowerProtect DM5500 Appliance is a Dell PowerEdge R740xd2 one-node server
(2U) server with two drive bays. Each drive bay has 12 drives for a total of 24 drives. The DM5500 Appliance supports 12 x 32
GB DIMMs with 12 TB to 96 TB storage capacity.
Network switches are not included with the DM5500 hardware and must be purchased separately or provided by the customer.
Two switches are recommended for redundancy. The following switches are compatible with the DM5500.
● SFP28 switches that support 10 GbE or 25 GbE and VLAN
● SFP+ switches that support 10 GbE and VLAN
● Switches that support 10GBASE-T copper cabling and VLAN
The DM5500 is shipped with a fixed rail kit and is installed in a customer-provided rack.
This guide describes DM5500 installation into the rack, cabling and network requirements, and the initial appliance configuration
in the PowerProtect DM5500 UI.
The DM5500 features, functionality, and configuration in the PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance UI are described in the
PowerProtect Data Manager Appliance Administrator Guide for DM5500.
