Introduction

SOM-9590, a COMe Type 7 module is designed for diverse applications in harsh environ-
ments. This module is equipped with an Intel® Xeon® Processor D-1500, bringing high-per-
formance computing and advanced intelligence to a system-on-a-chip.
All of SOM-9590's components, including memory and SSD storage, feature a soldered down
design and support operation in a broad temperature range -40 ~ 85 °C (-40 ~ 176 °F) to
guarantee component and hardware reliability in a variety of applications.
Moreover, the 2 10GBast-KR interface enables a wider bandwidth and faster transmission
rates for network connectivity. PCIe x16 and 8 PCIe x1 supports Non-Transparent Bridge
(NTB), which facilitates redundancy via PCIe. This helps reduce data loss, by allowing a sec-
ondary system to take over PCIe storage device management if the CPU fails, and is conve-
nient for applications requiring continuous service.
SOM-9590 has four screw holes near the CPU, positioned in compliance with the Intel® stan-
dard thermal design guide. The thermal module is attached to the CPU in a balanced torque
design, and is the first COM Express to have an added backplane to increase rigidity. The
thermal module fits tightly to the CPU without board flexing. This results in highly efficient heat
dissipation without affecting computing performance. Advantech offers a SOM-9590 thermal-
solution service to assist in system-level assembly.
SOM-9590 is a military standard design, meeting MIL-STD-810G certifications. MIL-STD-
810G is the toughest standard in the industry. SOM-9590 adheres to MIL-STD-810G under
several conditions passing tests related to wide temperature operation, altitude, humidity,
vibration, and shock. This is an optimal solution for users who want extreme computing per-
formance and non-stop service in harsh environments.
This device's improvement in hardware is buttressed by an improvement in support. SOM-
9590 features Advantech WISE-PaaS/DeviceON. The adaptable WISE-Paas architecture
enables seamless integration between diverse cloud solutions and equipment by supporting
150+ RESTful APIs, web services, and MQTT messaging protocols. These APIs allow pro-
grammers to make function calls in order to access system features without worrying about
the underlying source code or understanding internal hardware. Customers can purchase a
variety of solution-ready sets to create a completely unique object, or combine standard and
theme-based packages to fully customize an IoT solution that suits their individual require-
ments and working conditions.
