• Make sure that the child seat is appropriate for the child's weight
and development. The label required by the standard or
regulations, or instructions for infant seats, usually provide this
information
An infant or child that is not correctly restrained can be seriously
injured or killed in a crash. Seat belts are designed for adults and
larger children; infants and smaller children must be restrained in an
approved child seat.
Children could be endangered in a crash if their child seat is not
correctly secured in the vehicle.
Never hold a baby or child on your lap while riding in the vehicle.
Consult with local manufacturers of forward facing restraint and
booster cushions. These manufacturers can supply you with advice
on the safety of their particular child restraints.
Check the seat manufacturers instructions for correct use and
installation – use the correct size seat and correctly secure the seat in
the vehicle in accordance with the manufacturers instructions. Be
sure to read and follow the 'Installation and Use Instructions'
provided with the child seat.
