162 Driving and parking
Applying or releasing the electric parking
brake manually
To apply: push handle 1.

The ! indicator lamp appears in the
instrument cluster.
To release: switch on the ignition.
#
Pull handle 1.
#
The ! indicator lamp in the instrument
cluster goes out.
Emergency braking
Press and hold handle 1.

When the vehicle has been braked to a
standstill:
The electric parking brake is applied.

The ! indicator lamp appears in the
R
instrument cluster.
Information on detecting damage on a
parked vehicle
If a collision is detected when the tow-away pro‐
tection is activated on a locked vehicle, you will
receive notification:
On your smartphone
R
In the multimedia system when you switch
R
on the ignition
You will receive information about the following:
The area of the vehicle that may have been
R
damaged
The force of the impact
R
The following situations can lead to inadvertent
activation:
The parked vehicle is moved, for example in a
R
double-decker garage

Deactivate tow-away protection in order to
prevent inadvertent activation. If you deacti‐
vate tow-away protection, damage detection
will also be deactivated.
System limitations
Detection may be restricted if:
The vehicle is damaged without impact, for
R
example if an outside mirror is torn off or the
paint is damaged by a key.
Impact occurs at low speed.
R
The electric parking brake is not applied.
R
