System Status Log
A sequence of messages indicating the present status of the system as it opens or
closes the STANDARD USER INTERFACE is displayed in the System Status Log. The
System Status Log is part of the ADE SYSTEM CONTROLLER (CSA).
Trash
The Trash is a desktop icon which is used to delete a file or directory. If you wish
to delete a file or empty directory, simply drag and drop that icon to the Trash. When
you release the trackball button, the icon will appear (as broken pieces) inside the
Trash. To physically erase the file or directory from the hard disk drive, select the
Trash command Empty the Trash. To retrieve a discarded file or directory, drag
it from the Trash back to its original location in the desktop.
Uninterruptable Power Supply (UPS)
An Uninterruptable Power Supply is a battery-powered power supply which keeps
the computer powered on after a power failure occurs. It is configured to initiate an
automatic system shutdown after a loss of power.
UNIVERSAL SYSTEM CONTROLLER (USC)
The Universal System Controller is the name of the software which runs the ASC
2000.
UNIX
An industrial operating system that allows users to run multiple applications
simultaneously. The Santa Cruz Organization's version of the UNIX operating
system is used to operate the ASC 2000. This version is rarely used at the command
line.
VAXeln
The operating system that runs the STANDARD USER INTERFACE. The operating
system is contained on the rtVAX 300 board.
Window
When an icon is opened, it becomes a window. A window is a work area inside a
frame which appears when a program is started or a file/directory is opened.
Window Button Menu
At the leftmost top corner of every window is located a small "button". When the
trackball pointer is placed on this button, the Window Button Menu is displayed.
Window operations such as minimizing, moving, resizing, and closing are select-
able as menu items or keystrokes.
