Root Account
The account named "root" is reserved for use by the System Administrator.
rtVAX 300 Board
The board which runs the Universal System Controller inside the ASC 2000.
SCO Back-up
A SCSI tape containing the SCO-UNIX operating system. The tape is shipped
with the system from the factory.
SCO-UNIX
The Santa Cruz Organization's version of the UNIX operating system is used to
operate the ASC 2000. It is rarely used at the command line.
Soft Reset
Performing a soft reset causes the rtVAX host controller to reboot and restart
its VAXeln operating system (without resetting the actual rtVAX 300 board).
To perform a Soft Reset, use the Commands menu in the ADE SYSTEM CON-
TROLLER (CSA).
STANDARD USER INTERFACE
The STANDARD USER INTERFACE is the display portion of ADE's wafer
characterization software, known as the UNIVERSAL SYSTEM CONTROLLER
(USC). Menu items may be selected using the keyboard.
Superuser
The System Administrator is also referred to as the "superuser" because he
has access to files and menus which operator accounts do not have access to.
System Administrator
The System Administrator is a high-level individual who is responsible for all
system maintenance functions, such as backing up the hard disk drive and
setting the system time and date. Logging into the system as "root" and enter-
ing the System Administrator password allows access to files and menus which
operator accounts do not have privileges for.
SYSTEM SHUTDOWN Application
A shutdown of the UNIX operating system can be performed by double-click-
ing the SYSTEM SHUTDOWN icon, located at the far right bottom corner of
the desktop workspace.
Shutting down the system is a means of preserving
the UNIX filesystem and is required immediately before turning the computer
power off.
