PROBLEM
POSSIBLE CAUSE
Engine will not start
Battery switch in the OFF position.
Out of fuel.
Bad fuel, generator stored without treating or
draining gasoline, or refueled with bad gasoline.
Low engine oil level stopped generator.
Spark plug faulty, fouled, or improperly gapped.
pump failure, ignition malfunction, valves stuck,
etc.
Battery drained.
Choke partially open or closed due to weak or
disconnected battery.
Engine starts, then
Out of fuel.
shuts down
Incorrect engine oil level.
Contaminated fuel.
Defective low oil level switch.
Engine lacks power
Bad fuel, generator stored without treating or
draining gasoline, or refueled with bad gasoline.
pump failure, ignition malfunction, valves stuck,

Engine runs rough
or bogs when load
Generator overloaded.

CORRECTION
Turn battery switch to the ON position.
Refuel.
Drain the fuel tank. Refuel with fresh gasoline.
If low oil LED illuminated, turn battery switch to the OFF position.
Add engine oil.
recoil handle rapidly several times. If the generator does not start,
remove spark plug and dry.
Gap or replace the spark plug. Reinstall.

Use the recoil handle to start the generator.
Charge the battery.
Manually set the choke. See Maintenance section.
Refuel.
Check engine oil level.
Drain the fuel tank. Refuel with fresh gasoline.
