When Is A Child Ready To Ride Without A Booster Seat

Children need a booster seat until their body fits properly on the vehicle seat AND the seat
belt fits properly on their body without the help of a booster.
Fitting properly means that you can say yes to all 5 questions below:
1. The child can sit with their back against the back of the vehicle seat.
2. The child's knees can bend naturally at the edge of the vehicle seat without slouching.
3. The lap belt is on the lap, not on the belly. The lap belt should rest on the top of the thighs.
4. The shoulder belt is comfortable between the neck and the shoulder.
5. The child can sit like this for the entire trip.
Studies show that half of all 10 year olds need a booster seat to ride safely. By age 12 most
kids can ride safely without a booster.
