LEDs on the PROFINET Scanner Module

LEDs provide an immediate visual indication of the operational state of the PNS and port link
status. The LEDs and their operation are described in Chapter 2, LED Operation and
Connector Details. The figures above illustrate the differences between the version -Axxx
and -Bxxx front panels.
1.3.2

SD Card Slot

The SD Card Slot supports an SD or SDHC card. It can be used to transfer the IO-Device Name
to another PROFINET Scanner Module unit without a configuration tool such as PAC
Machine Edition.
1.3.3

Pushbutton

The pushbutton adjacent to the USB port on Rev. -Axxx units is reserved for future use.
1.3.4

Reset Button

The reset button available on units Rev. -Bxxx and later will reset the unit on release. It is also
used to prove physical presence when assigning the web update password.
1.3.5

Front Panel Port

The front panel Port is used for installing new firmware. An Ethernet port is provided for
revision –Bxxx or later modules to use with the secure firmware update within a web
browser. A USB port is provided for -Axxx revisions of the module to update firmware using
the WinLoader tool.
1.3.6

Ethernet Port Connections

Each port on an RX3i PNS operates independently, so devices that operate at different
speeds and/or duplex modes may be attached to the ports. By default, all ports, including
empty, unconfigured SFP cages, are set for Automatic, which enables auto negotiation for
the widest range of options supported by the port.

Connections to the PROFINET Scanner can be made using standard Cat 5e/6 Ethernet
cables. Different devices on the same network can be connected using the multiple ports
on the RX3i PNS (Figure 3).
