(FESEM), equipped with an ultramicrotome stage. Focal CC is used to increase the image quality by eliminating charging effects. The effect of charg- ing of non-conducting specimens is eliminated by the injection of gaseous nitrogen above the specimen surface.
ZEISS service representative should be informed. The Device can only be operated after proper installation by a ZEISS service representative and in compliance with the operating conditions. Do not operate the Device until you have completely read and understood the entire documentation delivered with the Device.

Charge The Focal CC operates to avoid the charging effect. This is achieved by injecting a local flow of Compensation gaseous nitrogen onto the area of interest.
ZEISS 4 Installation Installation and commissioning are carried out by authorized ZEISS service representative. The in- stallation requirements are to be observed and adhered to. After installation or retrofitting, thor- oughly check that the Device is in a safe operational state, making sure in particular that all pro- tective covers (e.g.
Do not use the Focal CC gas flow at a default value of 100 %. This places a heavier strain on the vacuum system and will reduce the time period before expensive vacuum components need re- placement, and may speed up degradation in column reliability.
HT to be turned on. If the microscope is fail- ing to reach system vacuum, check the status of the Focal CC gas flow since it is not automatically turned off when pumping the specimen chamber.
Focal CC must be turned off when pumping the specimen chamber to vacuum. Info When Focal CC is selected in the software, quiet vacuum mode is not available. Fig. 7: The Charge Compensation section looks slightly different for GeminiSEM (left) and Sigma...
50 % CC pressure. This prevents arcing at the SE detector. The automatic switch off requires SmartSEM 6.06 or later. If you use SmartSEM 6.05 or earlier, you have to turn down the HT bias to the SE detector manually when the Focal CC is on. Prerequisite ü...
5.6.2 Stopping the Gas Injection Prerequisite ü The Focal CC is selected in the software, refer to Selecting Focal CC in the Software [ 19]. Procedure 1. For GeminiSEM: In the GeminiSEM Control panel, select the Control tab.
Only conduct preventive measures described in the Instruction Manual. All tasks of maintenance, service and cleaning not described here must only be performed by an authorized ZEISS service representative. Any unauthorized intervention in the Device or any operation outside the scope of the intended use can lead to injuries and property damage, and voids all rights to warranty claims.
There is no warranty on the carbon nozzles. Info The Focal CC is supplied with a tool for star screws. Keep the tool in a safe place for future use. Fig. 8: Focal CC attached to the ultramicrotome...
Refer to Attaching the Silicone Hose [ 24]. 5. Check and finely adjust the stop position, and clamp the locking screw. This should always be checked. Instruction Manual ZEISS Focal CC | en-US | Rev. 2 | 349561-8021-000...
2. Use a hex key to turn the height adjustment set screw clockwise to raise the carbon nozzle. INFO: If possible use a binocular viewer to make the height change clearly visible. 3. Tighten the fixing screws Instruction Manual ZEISS Focal CC | en-US | Rev. 2 | 349561-8021-000...
