    Introduction The SPS-5 is a low-cost, easy to use, 5 lb rate pensive scales, and displays its numerals on a computing scale featuring the most commonly 4-digit, easy-to-read LCD display. Six annun- used letter and small parcel rates offered by ciators let you know clearly what rate is cur- the United States Postal Service.

    Basics of Operation MODEL SPS-5 SPS-5 Front Panel INDIC. FUNCTION Use this key to select the First Class / Priority Rate. The scale auto- matically switches to Priority Mail for items weighing more than 11 ounces. Use this key to select the Express Mail Rate.

    Calibration Your SPS-5 scale is ready to use right out of the box. There is no need to calibrate the scale unless you feel that the scale has become inaccurate. It is a good idea to check the calibration of your scale from time to time with a precision test weight.

    Calibration - Continued MESSAGE MEANING / POSSIBLE SOLUTION Shows “Err” The scale is unstable. Make sure you are not violating one of the Do Not’s in the “Getting Continuously Started” section.     When the Post Office changes its rates, it is necessary to obtain a new, updated Rate Cartridge from your dealer or reseller containing all the necessary rate information. The SPS-5 was designed in such a way as to make this an easy, painless process. You will need a small Phillips head screwdriver to com- plete the process.
