Before Requesting Service

Check the following points once again if you are having trouble with your unit.

No power...
Power turns itself off...
No picture or sound...
Poor picture with
normal sound...
Poor sound with
normal picture...
Poor TV reception...
No color or poor
color...
Ghost (multiple)
images...
TV programs cannot be
watched...
Channel cannot be
selected...
Clock display is

Front Display is dim...
Front display VHS tape
counter value does not

Unit cannot be
controlled...
ACTION, PLAY,
SELECT, SET POWER,
etc. buttons cannot be
selected...
TV program cannot be
recorded...
Timer recording cannot
be performed...
No playback picture,
or the playback picture
is noisy or contains
streaks...

Completely insert Power Plug into an AC outlet.
Set POWER button to ON.
Auto power-off (shut off) occurs after about 5 min. in DVD Stop mode with no operation, or if there is no
broadcast signal in TV or Playback mode. Turn the power back on.
Make sure your antenna system (TV or CABLE) is correctly set.
Completely insert Power Plug into an AC outlet.
Set POWER button to ON.
Adjust BRIGHTNESS, SHARPNESS, and PICTURE controls in the SET UP Video Adjustment.
Adjust VOLUME control.
Adjust SHARPNESS and PICTURE controls in the SET UP Video Adjustment.
Adjust TINT and COLOR controls in the SET UP Video Adjustment.
Install a directional antenna.
Make sure the selected channel is in unit's memory.
Only the channel being recorded can be viewed on this unit.
Clock is wrong. Set clock.
Check the Front Display setting.
On a blank section of tape the value stays fixed while the seconds portion is displayed as follows.
Also, if the tape is dirty or damaged, or if unit is malfunctioning, the display above may appear. Please consult
your retailer.
Aim Remote directly at the remote sensor on the unit. Avoid any object blocking signal path.
Inspect the remote batteries.
Exposing unit remote sensor to direct fluorescent or outdoor light may cause signal interference.
Press VCR for VCR mode.
Press DVD for DVD mode.
Check remote batteries.
Make sure your antenna system (TV or CABLE), is correctly set.
Make sure cassette record tab is intact.
Check that clock is set to current time and date.
Make sure DSS/CABLE box (if used) is left on and tuned to channel to be recorded.
Set recording Start/Stop times correctly.
Timer recording may not be performed or continued if a power interruption of more than 1 minute occurs
before or during a Timer Recording, even after power is restored.
Adjust TRACKING control in either direction.
Try Head Cleaning.
