4.7.4 Wiring multi-coloured beacon sets

The Vw2 can support a 'common neutral' wiring mode
to reduce cabling costs when used with multicoloured
beacon clusters.

Warning: Only common return paths on a single
Vw2, do not bridge across multiple units.
Warning: The common return cabling must
be sized to support the full load of all beacons
illuminated.

4.7.5 Beacon loop wiring sizing

The beacon wiring should be sized to match the total
steady state load while also compensating for any
voltage drop over distance.

5 Unit operation

5.1 Data communications

The Beacon Bus provides a data control feed from and
status replies to the 2Mx. The feed is a self-healing loop
where data is being transmitted in both directions, to
ensure that in the unlikely event of a cable failure there
will be no loss in coverage. The Beacon Bus is a data
connection bus only and carries no audio signal.
The Vw2 can receive and reply on either Top or Bottom
ports depending on which is active. The protocol used is
proprietary Sonix datagram format and contains system
activity information from the 2Mx central controller and
Vw2 status and activity going to the 2Mx.

5.2 Basic operation

Each output port can be configured to activate on
any active PA/GA alarms, 1 to 6. When any alarms
associated with an output are active on the PA/GA
system, the output will activate.
Key settings:
Loop 1 Alarm Map
Loop 2 Alarm Map

5.2.1 Alarm escalation

The Vw2 can be configured to extinguish the associated
beacon if a higher priority alarm is active.
This option is typically used when there are multi-
coloured beacon stacks and operators require only the
highest priority to be active.
Key settings:
Alarm Escalate

5.2.2 Emergency speech

Each output port can also be configured to activate
when Emergency Speech (also called Important
Message) is active on the PA/GA system. If enabled,
the beacon output will also activate during an active
Emergency speech broadcast whatever the alarm
situation.
It is acceptable to configure an output to only be active
on Emergency Speech and have no associated alarms.
This setting ignores Alarm Escalation and so it is possible to have
N
ote:
both alarm escalation enabled AND activate all beacons on Emergency
Speech broadcasts.
Key settings:
Loop 1 Important Message
Loop 2 Important Message
