5.3 Beacon loop monitoring

The Vw2 unit will, if configured, regularly send a short
pulse of power out of the output port of each beacon
port and sense the energy coming back to the return
port. If the return energy is not seen within the testing
window, nominally ¼ second, then that beacon output
port is considered to be 'in fault' and a fault flag is
generated. Any fault flags are communicated to the 2Mx
and then onto the wider PA/GA system.

Setting to 'Never' prevents regular automatic testing but NOT
manually initiated testing from the 2Mx central controller.
Beacon test interval is reduced to 10 minutes in the event of a

6 Setup and Configuration

If the Vw2 unit is being supplied as a replacement in an
existing system, it shall be shipped as fully configured
for ease of replacement. Otherwise, the unit comes
pre-configured with generic setup used for quality and
functionality testing and should be reconfigured for
appropriate use.
N
ote:
Not all settings are covered in this manual, for full details on
available settings please refer to SAS Product Manual.
Sonix modules – the Vw2 included – have been
designed to be configurable via SAS application. A
detailed description of all the configuration options
is included in SAS Product Manual, but some of the
options are worth mentioning here for clarity and
completion.

6.1 Unit ID

Each Vw2 unit connected to the system must have a
unique identifier, called a Unit ID. This can be set to any
number between 1 and 31 (inclusive) and is used to
identify the module to the 2Mx and SAS.

6.1.1 Ping set (Set a new Unit ID)

Ping set is generated by SAS and is used to give the
target Vw2 a new Unit ID.
Unlike other Sonix modules, the Vw2 unit will accept
the Ping Set command without acknowledging it to the
user, meaning, that it does not require user's action to
confirm the change of Unit ID. Because of that, great
care should be taken while setting the Unit ID for Vw2
units – if there is more than one Vw2 unit connected in
a chain, the other units should be disconnected from
the Beacon Bus during Ping Set operations so that they
do not acquire the new Unit ID number. An alternative
solution is to connect directly to the unit on the top port
connection, ensuring the data rate of SAS is adjusted to
be standard speed not high speed.
Use Ping Set on individually connected units only.

6.2 Rx Data Check

The Vw2 units monitor the Beacon Bus for Data flowing
in both directions. In normal operation the final unit in
the chain will not receive any data on its bottom port.
This will generate an error; therefore Rx Data Check
option should be set to Disabled for this unit to avoid
false error notification. Please refer to SAS Product
Manual
for details.
