etc.
ELECTRICAL HAZARD
All generators coveredby this manualproducedangerous electrical
voltagesand can causefatal electricalshock.Utility powerdelivers
extremely high and dangerous voltagesto thetransfer switchas does
the standbygenerator w henit is in operation. A voidcontactwith bare
wires,terminals,connections, etc.,whiletheunit is running.Ensure all
appropriate covers,guardsand barriersare in placebeforeoperating
the generator. I f youmustworkaroundan operatingunit, standon an
insulated,drysurfaceto reduceshockhazard.
Donot handleany kind of electricaldevicewhile standing in water,
whilebarefoot, o r whilehandsor feet arewet.DANGEROUS
ELECTRICAL
SHOCK MAY RESULT.
The NationalElectricalCode(NEC)requiresthe frame and external
electricallyconductiveparts of the generatorto be connected to an
approved earth ground.Localelectricalcodesalso mayrequireproper
grounding of the generator e lectricalsystem.
After the homestandbyelectricalsystemhas beeninstalledit will be
capableof crankingand startingat anytime whilein the "Auto" mode.
Whenthe unit starts in "Auto"the load circuits are transferred to the
STANDBY
(generator) power s ource. Toprevent possible injurywhen working
on the systemalwaysset the generator's A uto/Off/Manual switchto its
"OFF", r emove c ontrolpanel f usesanddisconnect the startingbattery.
In caseof accidentcaused byelectricshock, i mmediately s hut downthe
source of electricalpower. I f this is not possible, attemptto freethe
victimfromtheliveconductor. AVOID DIRECT C ONTACT
WITH THE VICTIM.
Usea non-conducting i mplement, s uch as a ropeor board,to freethe
victimfromtheliveconductor. If thevictim is unconscious, applyfirst aid
andgetimmediate medical h elp.
Never wear jewelry when working on this equipment.Jewelrycan
conductelectricityresulting in electric shock,or may get caught in
movingcomponents c ausinginjury.
A FIREHAZARDS A
Forfire safety, the generator m ustbe installed and maintained properly.
Installation a lwaysmustcomply with applicable codes, standards, l aws
andregulations. Adhere strictlyto localstateand national e lectrical a nd
building codes.Complywith regulations the Occupational Safetyand

and recommendations.
Followingproperinstallation, do nothingthat
might altera safeinstallation and render t heunitin noncompliance with
theaforementioned codes, s tandards, l awsand regulations.
Keep a fire extinguisher n earthe generatorat all times. Extinguishers
rated"ABC" bythe National F ireProtection Association areappropriate
for useon the standbyelectricsystem.Keep the extinguisher p roperly
charged and befamiliar with its use.If youhaveanyquestion pertaining
to fire extinguishers, consultyourlocalfire department.
/_ EXPLOSION H AZARDS/_
Do not smokearoundthe generator. W ipe up any fuel or oil spills
immediately. Ensurethat no combustible materialsare left in the
generatorcompartment,or on or near the generator,as FIRE or
EXPLOSION
mayresult.Keep the areasurrounding the generator c lean
andfreefrom debris.
Gaseous fluids such as natural gas and liquid propane (LP) gas are
extremelyEXPLOSIVE. Install the fuel supply system accordingto
applicablefuel-gas codes.Beforeplacing the homestandbyelectric
systemintoservice, f uel system lines mustbeproperly purgedand leak
testedaccording to applicable code.Afterinstallation, y oumustinspect
the fuel systemperiodically for leaks.Noleakage is permitted.
