3 GETTING STARTED (continued)
To fit the needle:

Unscrew and remove the needle protector
from the gauge.

Fit the needle to the needle adaptor.

Place the needle protector over the needle
with the bottom end upwards towards the
gauge as shown (see Figure 1) and push
the needle to ensure a tight fit.
To remove the needle:

Use the bottom end of the needle protector
to loosen and remove the needle
(see Figure 2).
To avoid injury, take care when using
needles and dispose of needles safely.

4 USING THE GAUGE

Before using the gauge, read the safety precautions in Section 3.1
'Working Safely' on page en-1.

Unscrew and remove the needle protector from the gauge,
keeping it in a safe place.

Check the condition of the needle and replace if necessary -
see Section 3.2 'Fitting a Needle' on page en-1.

Lubricate the needle and the area on the
hose where the needle is to be inserted
with a little water prior to test.

Slowly but firmly insert the needle into the
hose at a 45 degree angle from the flow of
air / abrasive (see Figure 3).
Insert the needle slowly as it can bend
and break.

Record the pressure reading on the
gauge.

Remove the needle pressure gauge.

Refit the needle protector.
