HANDLING TRUCK WITH TURBO-CHARGED
ENGINE
The turbo-charged engine needs more careful handling than
engines without turbocharger. Poor handling will impair the
performance of the turbocharger. Observe the following cautions
and the procedure for handling the truck with turbo-charged
engine.
After the engine has started
After the engine has started, let the engine run at idle rpm for a
few minutes to lubricate inside the engine and the turbo-charger.
Do not press hard on the accelerator pedal without load
immediately after the engine started. Avoid sudden acceleration.
In particular, observe the above conditions in a cold weather.
When restarting the engine after a short break (about 30 minutes),
you can shorten the time for warming-up the engine properly.
However, after changing oil or the oil filter, make sure to take
enough time to let the engine run at idle rpm.
If you notice abnormal noise or vibration during operation, stop the
operation immediately and have the engine inspected.
PROPER OPERATION
When shutting down the engine
Make sure to let the engine run at idle rpm for a few minutes
before shutting down the engine. In particular, after operating
the truck under a heavy load, traveling a high speed, or climbing
a slope, be sure to observe the above condition. If the engine is
shut down immediately after running the engine under a heavy
load, the bearings of the turbocharger might overheat because the
supply of oil is stopped although the turbine is still hot.
Engine oil
the deterioration of engine oil will have a bad effect not only on the
engine proper but on the turbocharger. Use the specified engine
oil and change at regular intervals.
The engine oil to be used should be API Class CD or equivalent.
Inspecting the intake and exhaust system
Inspect the turbocharger for installation, loose piping connection,
and deteriorated or damaged hose. Also, clean and replace the air
cleaner element at regular intervals.
Gas leakage or clogged air cleaner will impair the performance of
the turbocharger.
