The starter switch has four positions shown

drawn out.
The starter switch is "OFF" at this position.

turned to this position.

The electric circuit for the starter motor and
others is closed.
While the engine is running, keep the
starter switch at the "ON" position.
2-5
START
The engine starts. After the engine starts
up, remove your hand from the key. The
starter switch will automatically return to
the "ON" position.
PREHEAT
To help start a cold engine, turn the starter
switch to the "PREHEAT" position to
preheat the engine for about 20 seconds.
Preheating the engine is not necessary
when the weather is warm. The key will
automatically return to "OFF" when you
remove your hand from it at the "PREHEAT"

STARTER SWITCH
NOTE
1. Do not keep the starter switch in the
"ON" position while the engine is not
running. This will cause a discharged
battery. While the engine is running,
keep the key switch in the "ON" position.
2. While the engine is running, do not turn
the starter switch to the "START" position.
It will cause a damaged starter motor.
3. Do not keep the starter motor turning
for more than 10 seconds at a time. If
the engine won't start, wait about 30
seconds before trying again.
If the starter switch is turned to the
"START" position without a break, the
starter pinion gears and engine ring
gear will be damaged.
4. The engine won't start unless the shift
lever is in neutral.
