Heat Pump Applications Overview
®
vFlow
is a revolutionary new, intelligent, and efficient way to
®
circulate water (or water plus antifreeze) using INTERNAL,
variable water flow control. The factory-installed high-
efficiency variable-speed pump uses 60%-80% less wattage
than a traditional fixed speed pump. vFlow technology
improves performance of the unit by reducing the amount
of energy required to optimize the flow of water throughout
a GHP System and also reduces the space, cost, and labor
required to install external water flow control mechanisms
(flow controllers, solenoid and flow control valves).

Configuration:
®
Internal Flow Controller - For Closed Loop Applications
This is the most common configuration for closed loops. With
this factory-installed standard option, the unit is built with
an Internal Variable Speed Pump and other components to
flush and operate the unit correctly (including an expansion
tank, flush ports and flushing valves). The pump speed is
controlled by the EXM control based on the difference in
entering and leaving water temperatures (ΔT). The Internal
Flow Controller pump includes an internal check valve for
multiple unit installations.
Note: Internal Flow Controllers are also very suitable for
multiple unit installations depending on pump performance
requirements.
Details are included in the following sections on ground loop
applications.

CAUTION!
CAUTION! The following instructions represent industry
accepted installation practices for closed loop earth
coupled heat pump systems. Instructions are provided
to assist the contractor in installing trouble free ground
loops. These instructions are recommendations only.
State/provincial and local codes MUST be followed and
installation MUST conform to ALL applicable codes. It is
the responsibility of the installing contractor to determine
and comply with ALL applicable codes and regulations.
