Recording
Problem
A vertical light bar appears on the
screen.
Viewfinder picture is blurred.
Audio is not recorded.
Audio is recorded in a very low
level.
Playback
Problem
Pressing the playback button does
not start playback.
Tape is running, but image will not
appear on the TV screen.
While playing back a tape recorded
in HDV standard there are brief
stops in the playback picture.
Memory Card Operations
Problem
Memory card cannot be inserted.
Memory card cannot be recorded.
Memory card cannot be played
back.
Image cannot be erased.

About the LCD screen
The LCD screen is produced with extremely high-precision manufacturing techniques, with more than 99.99%
of the pixels operating to specification. Less than 0.01% of the pixels may occasionally misfire or appear as
black, red, green or blue dots. This has no effect on the recorded image and does not constitute a
malfunction.
Cause
Bright light in a dark scene may
cause a vertical light bar (smear) to
appear. This is not a malfunction.
Viewfinder is not adjusted.
The input channel selection switch is
not set to the correct position.
Even though you are using the built-
in microphone, [XLR INPUT] is set to
[ON
XLR].
Microphone connected to the XLR
terminal needs to be powered by the
phantom power.
The AUDIO LEVEL switch is set to
M, and recording level is set too low.
Microphone attenuator is turned on.
Cause
Camcorder is turned off, or is not set
to
mode.

Solution
Record in the Av mode with F5.6–
F8.0.
Adjust the viewfinder with the
dioptric adjustment lever.
Set the input channel selection
switch to the correct position.
Set [XLR INPUT] to [OFF].
Set the
switch to ON.
Adjust the audio level correctly.
Set the MIC ATT. switch or the
switch to OFF.
Solution
Set the camcorder to
mode.
Load a cassette.
Clean the video heads.
Stop playback/dubbing.
Verify that the video cable is
connected properly.
Clean the video heads with a dry
cleaning cassette.
Solution
Turn the memory card over and
reinsert it.
Insert a memory card.
Replace the memory card or erase
images.
Initialize the memory card.
Set [FILE NOS.] to [RESET] and
insert a new memory card.
Set the
dial to VCR/PLAY
and the
/
(card/tape) switch to
.
Cancel the protection.
Change the position of the write-
protect switch on the memory card
to unlock it.
Turn off the camcorder. Remove and
reinsert the memory card. Initialize
the memory card if flashing persists.
