9.1 Introduction

This section contains information on installation of the EPAC M50-Series and its
accessories by qualified personnel. Siemens periodically conducts Installation and
Maintenance classes at its training facilities in Austin, Texas. Users are
encouraged to attend these classes, as they provide "hands-on" experience in the
installation, maintenance, and use of Siemens products. The Siemens worldwide
network of Factory Authorized Dealers is also a valuable source of information and
assistance for installation.
On-site installation should be limited to connection of cabling and application of
power. Refer to the drawings furnished with the terminal facilities for exact details
of the peripheral equipment, and check out the entire operation of the facility and
EPAC M50-Series programming off site, if possible. Be sure to provide adequate
safety at the intersection during installation.

9.2 Handling

Normal precautions for lifting and transporting electronic equipment should be
observed when handling the system units. Use the Siemens original packing
material whenever possible.

9.3 Environmental

9.3.1 Humidity

The EPAC M50-Series will operate normally at a relative humidity of up to 95%,
non-condensing. Keep the equipment free of moisture, including condensation due
to a cool device being introduced into a warm, humid atmosphere. In warm humid
conditions always allow the equipment time to warm to the air temperature, and
then insure it is perfectly dry before operating. The EPAC M50-Series uses very
low-powered signals in some areas, and small amounts of moisture can cause
leakage of one signal into another. Also, the EPAC M50-Series is designed with
Industrial or Military grade electronic parts, but these parts can absorb moisture
and fail if moist for long periods of time.

9.3.2 Heat

Just as friction and vibration cause mechanical parts to wear out, heat is one of the
two main enemies of electronic parts. The cooler the electronic assemblies can be
maintained the longer their life. Make sure the facilities have proper ventilation, and
adequate air volume to minimize the heat rise inside the cabinet. The EPAC M50-
Series is "convection cooled ", meaning it has no fans to force air through the
