3.7.3 Backlight

The Front Panel contains a bright long-life light-emitting diode backlight for
viewing in low light conditions.
backlight, which automatically extinguishes after approximately 10 minutes.

3.7.4 Other Front Panel Devices

The Front Panel C60 connector emulates a VT100 Terminal, per the Joint
NEMA/AASHTO/ITE 2070 ATC specification. This means that the Front Panel is but
one of many different devices that may be connected to C60 for data key in and
display.
For cost savings, the Front Panel may be deleted and C60 may be
connected to COM1 of a computer or PDA running Windows Hyperterminal or
ZTERM.
When connected in this fashion, the keyboard and display of the
computer or PDA function the same as those on the Front Panel. Be sure to
configure Hyperterminal or ZTERM as follows:
Data Rate:
Data Length:
Parity:
Stop Bits:
Emulation:
Flow Control:
The Front Panel special function keys map to computer keys as follows:

A C60 cable is available from Siemens for connection to COM1 of a PC.

3.8 Power Supply

The EPAC300-M50 series includes a modular power supply that converts service
power into +5 VDC for all of the electronics and +24 VDC to power devices in the
cabinet. The M52 versions for NEMA TS-1 or TS-2 Type 2 cabinets include the 24
VDC power output, while the M51 versions for NEMA TS-2 Type 1 cabinets do not
include the 24 VDC power output. NEMA TS-2 Type 1 cabinets provide a separate
24 VDC power supply within the cabinet, external from the controller.
In addition to DC power output, the Power Supply also provides added safety
circuitry to measure Line Voltage and Output Voltage, as well as to generate Power
Fail Interrupts, Power Up Reset and a 120 Hz signal for a time base. The 120 Hz
signal incorporates a phase-locked loop that fills in missing power line cycles to
prevent clock drift due to short power failures.
