Installing the CFP Optical Module
Push the CFP optical module in the
slot with proper force.
b
Optical Power Commissioning
Before optical signals are input into an optical module, commission the input optical power of the optical interface (RXn)
to be within the optimal value range:
(Receiver sensitivity + 3) dBm to (Overload point – 2) dBm
NOTE
The optimal range of the input optical power for the CFP optical module is: (Average receive power for each lane (Min)
+ 10lgN + 3) dBm to (Average receive power for each lane (Max) + 10lgN - 2) dBm. N indicates the number of network
lanes. N and 10lgN for the 100G CFP optical module at 4x25 Gbit/s and the 40G CFP optical module at 4x10 Gbit/s are
4 and 6, respectively. N and 10lgN for the 100G CFP optical module at 10x10 Gbit/s are both 10.
Use the 40G optical interface as an example.
1. For the 40GBASE-LR4-10km (CFP), the average receive power for each lane (Min) is -13.7 dBm, the average receive
power for each lane (Max) is 2.3 dBm, and the number of network lanes is 4. Therefore, the optimal range of the receive
power for the 40GBASE-LR4-10km (CFP) is: -4.7 dBm to 6.3 dBm.
2. For the 40GBASE-ER4-40km (CFP), the average receive power for each lane (Min) is -20.5 dBm, the average receive
power for each lane (Max) is -2 dBm, and the number of network lanes is 4. Therefore, the optimal range of the receive
power for the 40GBASE-ER4-40km (CFP) is: -11.5 dBm to 2 dBm.
3. For the 40GBASE-ZR4-80km (CFP), the average receive power for each lane (Min) is -22 dBm, the average receive
power for each lane (Max) is -7 dBm, and the number of network lanes is 4. Therefore, the optimal range of the receive
power for the 40GBASE-ZR4-80km (CFP) is: -13 dBm to -3 dBm.
Use the 100G optical interface as an example.
1. For the 100GBASE-LR4-10km (CFP), the average receive power for each lane (Min) is -10.6 dBm, the average receive
power for each lane (Max) is 4.5 dBm, and the number of network lanes is 4. Therefore, the optimal range of the receive
power for the 100GBASE-LR4-10km (CFP) is: -1.6 dBm to 8.5 dBm.
2. Note the following when using the 100GBASE-ER4-40km (CFP):
The maximum transmission distance of the 100GBASE-ER4 is 40 km. The main transmission distance of the 100GBASE-
ER4 is 10 km - 40 km. You can use the 100GBASE-LR4 when a less-than-10 km transmission distance is required.
If the total receive power P < -4 dBm, no optical attenuators are required, and you can use the 100GBASE-ER4. If -4 dBm
≤ P ≤ 1 dBm, add a 5 dB optical attenuator to the receive end of the 100GBASE-ER4. If P > 1 dBm, add a 10 dB optical
attenuator to the receive end of the 100GBASE-ER4.
3. Note the following when using the 100GBASE-SM-80k (CFP):
The maximum transmission distance of the 100GBASE-ZR4 is 80 km. The main transmission distance of the 100GBASE-
ER4 is 10 km - 40 km. You can use the 100GBASE-LR4 when a less-than-10 km transmission distance is required.
Checking the receive optical power P is recommended. If P is less than -1 dBm, use the 100GBASE-ZR4. If P ranges
from -1 dBm to 9 dBm, add a 10 dB optical attenuator to the receive end of the 100GBASE-ZR4. If P is greater than 9
dBm and less than or equal to 13 dBm, add a 15 dB optical attenuator to the receive end of the 100GBASE-ZR4.
Tighten the screws after inserting the CFP
optical module into the slot.
