The switch can be used in a standalone configuration, or can be stacked
up to seven high to form a single logical switch with up to 182 ports. When
stacked, the 9.6 Gbps stack backplane provides enough bandwidth for
the most demanding environment. Moreover, you can use a 100 Mbps
fiber module for connecting to a remote site, or a Gigabit module for a
high-speed backbone connection.
The RMON/SNMP/Web Management Module provides a broad range of
management options. It includes a standards-compliant Simple Network
Management Protocol (SNMP) agent. The SNMP agent allows network
management station applications to collect and present status and
performance information about the stack, as well as providing the ability
to configure and control functions in the stack. The module also supports
Remote Monitoring (RMON) for Statistics, History, Alarm and Event
groups (Groups 1-3, 9).
Network management can be performed in-band using TCP/IP or Telnet
connection to the serial console port on the Management Module. This
module also includes a built-in Web agent that provides management
access via common http browsers such as Netscape Navigator and
Microsoft's Internet Explorer. In addition, the console port allows out-of-
band management using a PC or terminal.
The VH-2402S2 switch is desktop or rack-mountable. LEDs on the front
panel provide information about the operating status of the switch. The
back panel contains the power connector, redundant power connector,
and three slots for the optional modules. The side panel includes two fans
that maintain ventilation and cooling for internal switch components.
