4. 3 | Configuring Windows XP

The f ollowing inst ruct ions assume you are running Windows XP wit h t he def ault int erf ace. If
you are using t he Classic int erf ace (where t he icons and menus look like previous Windows
versions), please f ollow t he inst ruct ions f or Windows 2000 out lined above.
1.
Access your Net work set t ings by
clicking [ St art ] , choose [ Cont rol
Panel] , select [ Net work and Int ernet
Connect ions] and t hen click on t he
[ Net work Connect ions] icon.
2.
Locat e and double-click t he Local
Area Connect ion icon f or t he Et hernet
adapt er t hat is connect ed t o t he
Wireless Cable Modem Gat eway. Next ,
click t he [ Propert ies] but t on.
3.
On t he [ Local Area Connect ion]
Propert ies box, verif y t he box next t o
Int ernet Prot ocol (TCP/ IP) is checked.
Then highlight t he Int ernet Prot ocol
(TCP/ IP), and click t he Propert ies
but t on.
4.
Select Obt ain an IP address aut omat ically t o conf igure your comput er f or DHCP. Click
t he [ OK] but t on t o save t his change and close t he Propert ies window.
5.
Click t he [ OK] but t on again t o save t hese new changes.
6.
Reboot your PC.

4. 4 | Configuring a Macintosh Computer

You may f ind t hat t he inst ruct ions here do not exact ly mat ch t he screens you see, t his is
because t hese st eps were creat ed using Mac OS 8. 5. Mac OS 7. x and above are all very similar,
but may not be ident ical t o Mac OS 8. 5.
1.
Pull down t he Apple Menu. Click [ Cont rol Panel] and select TCP/ IP.
2.
In t he TCP/ IP dialog box, make sure t hat [ Et hernet ] is select ed in t he [ Connect Via: ]
f ield.
If [ Using DHCP Server] is already select ed in t he [ Conf igure] f ield, your comput er is
already conf igured f or DHCP. Close t he TCP/ IP dialog box, and skip t o St ep 2 Disable
HTTP Proxy (bot t om of t his page).
3.
All t he inf ormat ion t hat you need t o record is on t he [ TCP/ IP] dialog box. Use t he space
below t o record t he inf ormat ion.
4.
Select [ Using DHCP Server] in t he [ Conf igure] f ield and close t he window.
5.
Anot her box will appear asking whet her you want t o save your TCP/ IP set t ings. Click
[ Save] .
